Become a referee

A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

Becoming a referee is a great way for young people to get and stay involved in the game in a fun, active, and non-contact role. Whether they're looking to build confidence, stay fit, earn some extra money, or be part of the local footy community, refereeing offers a range of valuable opportunities.

Referees play a crucial role in the game — without them, there is no match — and they help create a safe, fair, and enjoyable environment for all players.

WHY BECOME A REFEREE?

  1. Build confidence, leadership, and communication skills

  2. Stay involved in rugby league without playing

  3. Develop a deeper understanding of the game

  4. Build real-world skills and experience that stand out on resumes and job applications

  5. Be part of the Gympie Devils community

  6. Opportunities to progress to higher levels of officiating

  7. Earn money while staying active

GET INVOLVED

If you are 13 years or older, you are eligible to become a referee.

If you're interested in getting started, simply get in touch with your club's SCGRALRA Referee Co-ordinator, who will guide you through the process.

To become a referee, you'll be required to complete a referee course and attend training workshops — but don't worry, you'll be supported every step of the way.

It’s a solid way for young people to earn money while staying active, and there are real pathways to higher levels, even officiating in the NRL. Overall, being a referee builds character, resilience, and respect both on and off the field.

VOLUNTEER

HELP OUT THE DEVILS!

The Gympie Devils wouldn't be possible without the army of volunteers who show up week after week to make game day happen. From setting up the grounds and running the canteen, to manning the gate and helping with presentations — every pair of hands makes a difference.

Whether you can commit to every home game or just want to help out when you can, we'd love to hear from you. And if game day doesn't work for your schedule, that's no problem at all — there's always something to be done behind the scenes, whether it's admin, social media, fundraising, sponsorship, or anything else you might have skills in. Every bit of help, big or small, keeps this club running.

Get in touch at mail to: devilssecretary@outlook.com and we'll find the perfect spot for you.
